Why would I have my publication classified?

General rules

Most publications do not need to be classified to be distributed or advertised in Australia. The exception to this is for submittable publications - these are described below.

You can choose to submit any publication or printed material for classification, whether or not you believe it would be restricted to adults upon classification. For example you may wish to submit publications for classification when your wholesale clients have a requirement that you do so.

Submittable publications

Submittable publications are publications which contain material that would cause them to be restricted to adults if they were classified. This includes material that is unsuitable for a minor to see or read, or material that is likely to cause offence to a reasonable adult. These publications must be classified before being sold or advertised.
