General requirements for display and legibility of classification markings for film session times
General provisions are set out in Part 3 of the Classification (Markings for Films and Computer Games) Determination 2007.
Markings must be displayed
A printed, backlit or electronic guide or directory setting out times for the screening of films must include classification markings. (See Section 34 of the Classification (Markings for Films and Computer Games) Determination 2007).
If it is not practicable to comply with a display requirement, the marking will be taken to comply with the requirement if the marking complies, as nearly as reasonably practicable, with the requirement. (See Section 11of the Classification (Markings for Films and Computer Games) Determination 2007).
Format and legibility
Classification markings in or on directories must be clearly legible. (See Section 20 of the Classification (Markings for Films and Computer Games) Determination 2007).
Markings must be displayed in high contrast to the background. (See Sections 13 and 15 of the Classification (Markings for Films and Computer Games) Determination 2007).
Coloured markings must be coloured in accordance with CMYK values as listed in Part 3 of Schedule 1 of the Determination. (See Section 13 of the Classification (Markings for Films and Computer Games) Determination 2007).
The classification character or classification symbol may be displayed in monochrome in a monochrome environment. (See Section 15 of the Classification (Markings for Films and Computer Games) Determination 2007).
The font for the classification symbol must be displayed in FF Din Bold. (See Section 16 of the Classification (Markings for Films and Computer Games) Determination 2007).
Specific provisions
How do I get classification markings for film session times and directories?
For directories where the titles are less than 3 mm high, a Classification Character [ZIP 2.15MB] must appear next to the title at the same height as the title.
For directories where the titles are 3 mm high or larger, there are 4 options for markings. All of the markings must appear next to the title, and at the same height as the title.
Download a classification markings key or legend to appear with the film session times
Printed session times, must include a key or legend, in text at least 2 mm high, listing each classification marking used (in the same kind of classification markings used in the session time) and the classification description. The classification descriptions are stated at the beginning of this section.
Electronic or online session times must include a link to a key or legend, in text at least 2 mm high, listing each classification marking used (in the same kind of classification markings used in the session time) and the classification description.
There are three versions of the keys and legends you can download – Single column vertical, Two column vertical and Two row horizontal. Each are downloadable in .jpeg and .eps formats.
