Publications
Only "submittable publications" must be classified before they can be sold, distributed or advertised in Australia. Publications include magazines and calendars.
A submittable publication contains depictions or descriptions that:
- are likely to cause the publication to be classified Refused Classification (RC), or
- are likely to cause offence to a reasonable adult to the extent that the publication should not be sold or displayed as an unrestricted publication, or
- are unsuitable for a minor to see or read.
The Classification Board classifies (on application) publications to determine:
- the age recommendations and restrictions that apply to the sale of publications
- the classification markings that must be displayed
- the conditions that must be complied with, when advertising these publications.
