Additional Content Assessors Scheme (ACA) training

The Classification Act provides that the Director of the Classification Board may authorise a person to assess and make recommendations on the classification and consumer advice for the additional content with a previously classified film or exempt film (or films).

An ACA Assessor will view the material and complete a recommendation report which will be provided to the Classification Board. The report will include a recommended classification and consumer advice. The Classification Board will take into account the recommendation from an authorised assessor when making a classification decision.

The ACA scheme only applies to films that are likely to be classified R18+ or lower, and applies to the original film plus additional content.
The Classification Board takes into account the recommendation from an Additional Content Assessor (ACA) when making a classification decision.

Please note: The scheme is not mandatory and the existing classification arrangements are still available to distributors.

ACA Scheme training – What courses are available?

Course prerequisites

Assessors new to the ACA scheme will need to complete the core film module prior to completing this training module, unless you are a current ATSA assessor. When you completed the ATSA training, you will have done training in film assessment, therefore you only need to complete the ACA scheme module.

Initial training

The ACA scheme training course in the classification of DVD additional content is available to distributors of DVDs (or other storage media) who wish to participate in the scheme.

Refresher training

A refresher training course is required at the 12 month anniversary of your initial training.  Attendance at a refresher course is required to maintain authorisation.  It ensures that assessors are kept abreast of classification standards.

Scheduled courses

Courses are offered several times a year.

Course costs

The cost of the ACA training module is based on cost recovery principles and is inclusive of GST. The initial and refresher courses each run for 2 hours.

  • Initial Course - $297.00
  • Refresher Training - $297.00

What does ACA Scheme training cover?

The ACA training program covers the:

  • legislative requirements of the Additional Content Assessor scheme
  • process for applying for the classification of additional content
  • use of the assessment report

Once trained in the ACA scheme, participants are issued with a letter of authorisation by the Director of the Classification Board.
