Le prince oublie (The Lost Prince) is a dramatic film from France, about a widowed man, Djibi, and his daughter Sofia. Every night, he tells her a bedtime story in which he plays the role of Prince Charming, but when Sofia grows up and no longer wants to hear his stories, Djibi must find a way to remain as Sofia’s hero. The film is in French, with English subtitles.

Themes

The film contains themes including the reference to the main character, Djibi, being widowed, which is treated very gently, with family photos which portray his wife on display around his home. There is also a scene of a storm/earthquake when debris flies around and the ground opens up in front of Prince Charming and another character, in a fantasy scene created by the main character, Djibi.

Violence

There is a scene of violence in a fantasy sequence, when Prince Charming and a villain character take a young boy into a room and appear to beat him up. The scene is of a slapstick, comedic nature, accompanied by sound effects. There is no injury depicted to the boy, who appears unharmed in later scenes.
