Carvão is an Argentine-Brazilian drama in which Irene, struggling to provide for her family in rural Brazil, agrees to put her bedridden father to rest in exchange for housing an Argentinian drug lord who faked his own death. The film is in Spanish and Portuguese language with English subtitles.

Themes

The film contains themes related to terminal illness, organised criminal activity including drug trafficking and murder, infidelity and a verbal reference to paedophilia. The film includes a brief scene in which chickens are prepared for slaughter then butchered.
