Dune is a science fiction film based on Frank Herbert’s novel of the same name. Set in the distant future, the film follows young and gifted nobleman, Paul Atreides, whose House is ordered to move to an inhospitable desert planet called Arrakis. Malevolent forces explode into conflict when House Atreides is assigned the task of overseeing the production of “spice”, the galaxy’s most valuable substance.
Thematic content includes political machinations, assassination, self-sacrifice, and scenes in which characters are faced with dangerous situations in which they must survive the harsh environment and giant sandworms on the desert planet, Arrakis.
The film includes multiple scenes in which men equipped with energy shields engage in combat including the use of blades to stab and slash at each other. Some post-action depictions of this combat include blood-detail. The film also includes a scene featuring large-scale combat involving missiles, explosives and lasers which cause buildings and vehicles to explode or be destroyed.
The film contains a verbal sexual reference in which a man mentions that he has never “had a highborn”.
