EA Sports NHL 25 is a simulation ice hockey game in which players engage in competitive matches using teams from various leagues from around the world. Gameplay is from and overhead perspective, however, sometimes the camera angles can change to alternate views during replays. There are a variety of modes including - Play Now, Be A Pro Career Mode, Franchise mode, Hockey Ultimate Team, World of Chel, Online Versus, NHL Threes and NHL Threes Online (3 on 3) and settings the player can control, such as frequency of penalties called or to turn injuries and fighting on or off. They can manage rosters, customise players, jerseys, stadiums, and teams. The game contains online interactivity in the form of text and voice, in-game purchases in the form of buying 'NHL Points" in-game currency with real-world currency and chance-based in-game purchases in the form of in the form of 'HUT Packs', virtual packs containing a randomised collection of in-game items, including player items.
