Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, said to be the 50th Anniversary edition, focuses on the powerful Italian-American crime family of Don Vito Corleone. When the don’s youngest son, Michael, reluctantly joins the Mafia, he becomes involved in the inevitable cycle of violence and betrayal.

Themes

The film contains themes relating to crime, revenge and mafia activity. In one scene a horse's severed head, with bone and muscle detail, is seen in a pool of blood in a man's bed. In another scene, a car is blown up with a woman inside.

Violence

The film contains violence in the form of shooting, stabbing and choking. A number of stylised fight scenes are viewed, involving implied punching, kicking and hitting. Blood detail, including blood sprays and bursts, is present in some of the scenes. The film also contains a scene of domestic violence where it is implied that a man punches and hits his wife. In addition, the film includes a scene of sexualised violence where it is implied that a couple are engaging in sexual activity under covers when they are suddenly shot.

Sex

The film contains verbal sexual references and scenes of implied sex. In one scene a couple is viewed having sex in a bathroom. The man moves against the woman however there is no nudity or explicit detail present.

Language

The film includes use of the words "shit", "bastard", "bitch", "crap", "ass", "jerk", "hell" and "damn".

The film contains verbal references to drugs, including mention of "white powder" and narcotics dealing.
