Mortal Kombat 1 is an arena-style, one-on-one fighting game in which players compete as a variety of human and human-like characters to win a fantasy fighting tournament, with past combatants emerging to compete with those from the modern era. Each playable character in the game has a unique combat style and a number of signature fight moves, including exaggerated special moves called fatal blows, brutalities and fatalities.
