NHL 24 is a simulation hockey game in which users engage in competitive matches using teams from various leagues.

Themes

The game contains themes related to sports injuries with players able to be bruised after a fight with the opposition, developing a black eye/mild swelling. Players cannot control when a bruise/swelling may appear but can choose not
engage in fights. The instant replay feature will allow users to get a closer view of bruises. Some song lyrics playing in the background during a match make brief verbal references to love, prescription medications and drinking alcohol.

Violence

The game contains options for players to engage in a fist-fights with members of opposing teams, where helmets can be knocked off and bruises/swelling can occur as a result. Players can also intentionally 'body check' the opposition during a match. Some song lyrics played in the background of a match make verbal references to fighting and injuries.

Language

The game contains use of the words "crappy", "butt" and "jerk" by commentators during a match.

Online interactivity

The game includes online interactivity in the form of multi-player options and communication through voice chat. The game also includes chance based in-game purchases in the form of packs acquired with NHL coins - purchased with 'real world' currency - that contain a randomised items such as player items, coach items, team items, collectibles and customisation items.
