The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition is a modified version of the previously classified first-person science fiction shooter The Outer Worlds, in which the playable character is woken from a cryogenic sleep and thrust into a battle between corporations competing for control of an alien colony. Modifications consist of the addition of downloadable content in the form of additional DLC packs titled Peril on Gorgon and Murder on Eridanos.

Themes

Some sections of the game feature depictions of corpses lying in pools of blood. This includes a depiction of a decapitated corpse, with bloody stumps where an arm and leg have also been severed. There are also depictions of suicide including a section in which a character is depicted on a video-phone screen shooting himself in the head, causing his head to explode and a burst of blood to splatter on the screen of the video monitor.

Violence

Combat involves an assortment of ranged and melee weapons including guns as well as science fiction weaponry that fires freezing blasts, dissolving acid and bursts of a glowing energy known as ‘N-Rays’. Bursts of brightly coloured blood spray from human characters when they are stuck by weapons while attacks on alien creatures results in bursts of a variety of colourful ‘blood’ sprays.

Language

The game includes use of the words "f**k", "shit", "ass", and "bastards".

Drug use

The game includes science fiction drugs including “Adrena-Time”, which is described as, “Liquid caffeine with boosters” that can have side-effects that increase aggression and trigger episodes of psychosis among heavy users. However, players can not induce this transformation on themselves, no matter how much Adrena-Time they consume.

An NPC is seen suffering from an addiction to a substance known as Dr. Low’s Sky High Mix and appears to be hallucinating when the player talks to him. The substance can be picked up and consumed by the player, providing a short term buff on player stats.
