The Possessed is an Australian horror film that follows Jacob Chandler, an ordinary man with the ability to conduct exorcisms. Jacob and his nephew, Liam, have forged a career 'clearing' demons from the bodies of possessed clients. Recently, the number of possessions in town have increased and the men must fight the evil entities to keep those they love safe.

Themes

The film contains horror themes, relating to demonic possession and exorcism. A number of exorcisms are carried out with the possessed, who exhibit demonic behaviour and take on the appearance of demon-like creatures. In addition there are verbal references to murder and suicide, with the aftermath of an attempted suicide depicted when a character becomes possessed by a demon.

Violence

The film includes violence in the form of kicks and slaps during some of the exorcisms. Two men punch each other in a brawl at a nightclub.

Sex

The film includes a verbal reference to a character going on a 'sexcapade' and being 'exploded over'. In another scene, a female appears aroused and writhes in her seat before attempting to touch a character's groin with her foot.

Language

The film includes use of the words "c**t", "f**k", "shit", "bitch", "bastard" and "asshole".

Drug use

The film includes a single verbal reference to a character smoking marijuana.
