After 20 years of wandering since the Trojan Wars, Odysseus returns incognito to his kingdom on Ithaca. His wife Penelope has refused to believe he must be dead and with her sons support has resisted the coercion to marry another to return the impoverished island to prosperity. Odysseus is doubtful he can regain his place even after finally revealing his presence to Penelope but eventually must face a challenge from all the would-be suitors to fight to regain his position.
