Rune Factory 3 Special is a sim RPG with a third person perspective and anime-style visuals for the Nintendo Switch. The playable character lands in the town of Sharance with amnesia and the special ability to transform into a sheep-like monster. The player must build friendships and develop romantic relationships with the townsfolk, battle monsters and participate in activities including farming, fishing, cooking and crafting items.

Themes

Thematic content includes relationship building and marriage and birth events. Such events are viewed as verbal interactions between the playable character and one of 11 non-playable characters that are considered marriage candidates.

Violence

Players can wield swords, staves, dual blades, magic staffs, hammers and other fantasy weapons in real time battles that make up some of the gameplay. The action is heavily stylised with an anime look and attacks are represented by colourful flashes, bright explosions and sound effects.

Sex

The game contains verbal references that include mild sexual innuendo. Non-playable characters discuss whether they have engaged in "kinky" behaviour.

Language

The game contains infrequent use of mild coarse language including the words “damn”, “hell” and “crap”.
