Under the leadership of Monsignor João Clá, the Catholic organization Heralds of the Gospel attracts young people to its castles with promises of quality education and devotion to the Virgin Mary. Former members claim they were encouraged to cut ties with their families and to proclaim themselves as “slaves” of the leader. A death sparks a wave of accusations exposing the group’s dark side. Heralds of the Gospel attract youth through study and devotion, but former members report family estrangement, surveillance, and total submission to leader João Clá.
