Top Gun: Maverick is an action film and the sequel to the 1986 film, Top Gun. It follows Pete “Maverick” Mitchell who, after more than thirty years of service as one of the US Navy’s top aviators, is called back to the academy to train a detachment of TOPGUN graduates for a specialised mission.

Themes

The film includes themes relating to death and warfare. The film also includes discussions about the loss of a close friend and a depiction of a man with a terminal illness.

Violence

The film includes violence relating to combat. Jets use missiles and guns to attack their enemy, with a number of fiery explosions occurring. Ground-to-air missiles are also used as a method of attack. In one scene, a helicopter fires at a man as he runs through the snow. There is no blood or injury detail.

Sex

A couple lie in bed, the male without a shirt, implying that the pair had engaged in intercourse earlier.
