Trance is an Indian dramatic film which follows a motivational speaker, Viju, who is enlisted by a mafia-like corporation to become a Christian evangelical miracle worker, known as Pastor JC, in order to exploit the masses. The film is in Malayalam with English subtitles.

Themes

The film contains themes of suicide, including a depiction of a woman being lifted down from a hanging position from a fan with sheets wrapped around her neck. The film also includes references to suicide attempts, mental illness and addiction. The film contains frequent references to and depictions of “miracles”, which have been created by a multi-national corporation to manipulate the Christian population.

Violence

The film includes a man attacking two men with a scythe, which includes large amounts of blood detail and implied, off-camera decapitations. The film also includes a man being hit over the head with a golf club and a hammer.

Sex

The film includes a depiction of a man and a woman kissing on a bed, the scene cuts to later and implies that the two engaged in sexual intercourse. The film also depicts the Red Light District in Amsterdam, including women standing in brothel windows licking lollypops seductively and wearing handcuffs.
